- advice, expertise and valuations.
Marc Butterlin is also a stockist for ARCUS Bow (carbon fibre bows and accessories).
Marc Butterlin studied violin making for three years at Merton College in South London, under the tutelage of Keith Graves, and was awarded the EDI Level 3 Certificate in Classical Musical Instrument Technology in 2009. During that time he also did work experience in the workshops of J.P. Guivier and Florian Leonhard in London.
Marc Butterlin is a keen amateur violin player (member of West London Strings) and is passionate about stringed instruments, both their aesthetics and their sound. He learned to build violins according to the construction methods of the classical Cremonese makers and works in that tradition, trying to capture the essence of what makes those instruments so great. His work is fed by continuous research into the methods, the instruments and the craft generally. Only the best timbers, materials and handmade fittings are used on all violins and violas made in the workshop.
Marc Butterlin has also served as Membership Secretary and Administrator of the British Violin Making Association since April 2008.
